Family Photographer in Rome — One Hour, Just Yours

You have the Colosseum photos. The Trevi Fountain selfies. The ones where someone's always missing because they're behind the camera.

Now you have one hour — just for your family, in one of the most cinematic and least crowded spots in Rome. I walk with you, play with the kids, move you gently from one angle to the next where the light changes and the ancient aqueducts tell a different story. I never ask anyone to stop and pose — as a result, the photos happen on their own, while you're busy being yourselves.

I'm Mara Fantini — a family photographer in Rome with 15 years of experience. This isn't a photo shoot. It's an hour you'll remember long after you've gone home.

I've been photographing families here for years. I know exactly where to stand at every hour, which angles transform an ordinary afternoon into something that looks painted.

How It Works

As a family photographer in Rome, I work mainly in outdoor locations where natural light does the heavy lifting.

Before the session

We have a quick conversation — how many of you, ages of the kids, what you're hoping to bring home. No special preparation needed. I'll send you a few notes on colours and clothing: neutrals, warm tones, earth colours that work with the natural palette of the park. Nothing needs to match perfectly. It just needs to feel like you.

During the session

The session lasts about 60 to 90 minutes, always in the late afternoon when the light is at its best. We walk through the park together — I play with the kids, guide your positions without it feeling like direction, and move you gently towards the best light as we go. I never say "now let's take a photo." The photos happen because we're moving, talking, living the hour.

With small children especially, I follow their lead — who they want to be with, what they feel like doing, whether they want to run or be carried.

The session, in other words, takes the shape of your family — not the other way around

After the session — the part tourists love most

Within 48 hours I send you a preview of 3-5 selected images — so you can see the results before you leave Rome, or enjoy them on the flight home.

Within 10 days you receive the full edited gallery. You choose your favourite images at home, with no rush, no pressure — surrounded by the memory of the trip. Most families end up selecting more than they planned. That's by design.

Everything is delivered digitally in high resolution, ready to print. If you chose the Collector package, your photobook ships directly to your home anywhere in Europe and the United States.

Why choose a family photographer in Rome like Mara Fantini

I've been a professional photographer in Rome since 2011. My aesthetic is rooted in Old Masters painting — Vermeer, Caravaggio, Rembrandt — which means I think about light the way painters did: as something that sculpts, not just illuminates. Every image I deliver is finished by hand in post-production. 

I have international awards. But what my clients remember is something else: that the kids forgot about the camera, that the hour felt like a walk rather than a shoot, that the photos looked nothing like what they expected — and everything like who they actually are.

Practical Information

Getting there Parco degli Acquedotti is easily reachable by taxi, rideshare, or public transport (Metro A, Giulio Agricola stop). Parking is available nearby. I send you exact directions and a meeting point after booking.

Best time of year Rome is beautiful year-round, but the best light for outdoor photography comes from spring (March–May)  to autumn (September–November). Summer sessions work best in the early evening. I'll suggest the ideal timing based on your travel dates.

Do you only shoot at Parco degli Acquedotti?

This is my signature location — the one I know best and where I consistently get the strongest results. If you have a specific request, we can discuss alternatives, but for families visiting Rome this is where I recommend starting.

We have small children. Will this work?

Small children are my speciality. I never ask kids to pose or stand still. I follow their pace — where they want to go, who they want to be with, what they feel like doing. The best photos always come from letting them be themselves.

We're leaving Rome in a few days. Will we get the photos in time?

You'll receive a preview of 5 images within 48 hours of the session — perfect for sharing before you fly home. The full edited gallery arrives within 10 days, so you can choose your favourite photos from the comfort of home, with time to savour them.

Can we add more photos than the package includes?

Yes — at €13 per extra photo for any package. Most families add some once they see the full gallery. It's the most common thing that happens, and it's always the right decision.

How does the photobook delivery work for the Collector package?

Once you've selected your 30 photos, I produce a  photobook and ship it directly to your home. We deliver across Europe and the United States, typically within 3–4 weeks of your selection.

What if it rains?

We reschedule to the next available date with good conditions. Light is everything — I never compromise on weather.

Mara was one of the highlights of our whole Rome trip. She held our appointment without asking for any deposit — the entire thing was based on trust, which set the tone for how lovely she is to work with. She even got us an Italian cake. We were nervous about doing a photoshoot with a one-year-old, but it went like a breeze. Mara was warm, patient, and delightful the whole time, and somehow made it feel easy. Abbiamo partecipato al servizio fotografico di famiglia al parco con Mara a fine Giugno con temperature esterne estreme, ma nonostante cio siamo state benissimo. Posso confermare che il Parco degli Acquedotti è veramente ben ventilato e Mara ci ha fatto dimenticare fin dal subito del caldo feroce di Roma avvolgendoci con la sua simpatia ed energia. Il tempo è volato nonostante ci siano stati parecchi scatti e abbiamo cambiato tante locazione in una sola ora. Le bimbe si sono innamorate di Lei fin dal punto che mi chiedevano di invitarla a cena con noi😄 Mara è una persona allegra e coinvolgente. Le consigliamo vivamente anche a persone timide o a chi essere fotografato generalmente è una tortura, perche riesce molto veloce a farvi sentire totalmente al vostro agio. Mara ha rispettato tutte le tempistiche promesse come se fosse un orologio svizzero e siamo stati accompagnati con tutte le informazioni e consigli necessarie nella fase preparativa. Scegliere gli scatti è stato difficoltoso per quanti belli e interessanti sono stati. È una bellissima e divertente esperienza che abbiamo vissuto col risultato che ci rimanga per sempre.
